USJA Coaching Clinic & Judo Seminar
Uprise Judo in York, Nebraska, will be hosting a judo seminar and a United States Judo Association (USJA) coaching clinic on April 18th, 2026. This course serves as the instructional portion required for USJA coaching certification for those who qualify. Sensei Johnny Tureaud, 5th degree black belt in Kodokan Judo and 2nd degree black belt in Japanese Jujutsu will be joining us as the instructor.
While this training is judo-focused, any martial artist or athlete is welcome to attend. The judo seminar is open to any martial artist age 8 and older. The coaching clinic is open to any martial artist age 14 and older.
A certificate of attendance will be provided to all coaching clinic participants.
Come and learn best practice methods for coaching children and adults in Kodokan Judo, with applications to any other martial art.
We are pleased to offer this opportunity not only to judo instructors, but to martial arts practitioners, instructors, coaches, and assisting staff from any discipline—whether established or new—who are seeking to grow professionally in knowledge, skill, and coaching ability. Ages 14+ any rank are encouraged to attend.
The judo seminar is a stand alone event allowing the chance for martial arts practitioners of any experience level and style to learn from one of the most knowledgeable instructors in the Midwest. Instruction will be tailored to age and skillset. Judoka, Wrestlers, Jiu Jitsu practitioners (both Japanese and Brazilian), and any other experienced martial artists are welcome!
A discount is offered for those registering for both the seminar and the clinic. Those attending will need to provide their out gi and belt.
The Judo Seminar will run from 2:00-3:30pm with the Coaching Clinic to follow from 4:00-6:00pm. Each event is $40, or both for $60.
Class with Sensei Parkhill!
Bret Parkhill, 6th Degree Black Belt
Sensei Parkhill will be returning to teach classes on the evening of December 23, 2025. This includes both the children’s class and the adult class.
This is his first visit since he moved away over a year ago, and a great opportunity for new students to meet him and benefit from his experience. You may also learn a lot about this history of judo from his asides and diversions during lessons. This is also an amazing opportunity for shorter and smaller built judoka to benefit from the instruction of an expert with similar build. Further, Sensei Parkhill is an expert in foot sweeps.
If you only make one class at the Des Moines Judo Academy this year, this should be it!
